Blog review: Legal

The UK government are considering plans to cut off internet access for people that illegally download music and films.Broadband providers that failed to enforce the rules could be prosecuted and forced to provide the details of the downloaders to the courts.

Six of the UK largest ISPs are set to announce that they've signed up to a government-backed initiative that's designed to clamp down on music privacy. The broadband suppliers, believed to be BT, Virgin, Carphone Warehouse, Orange, Tiscali and Sky- are expected to reveal details of a memorandum understanding they've signed with the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) that will result in the ISPs sending warning letters to those suspected of illegally downloading tracks.

The BPI, which represents the UK music industry has been pushing ISPs to step up efforts to tackle illegal downloads for many years. Music labels claim that free downloads from peer-to-peer services heavily impact sales and want those responsible to be penalised.

However, ISPs have been historically protective of their customers when it comes to relinquishing subscriber details to third parties. Therefore, one idea that's been suggested is that ISPs implement a "Three strikes and you're out rule" under which offenders would first be issued with written warnings. Then if they continued to illegally download tracks, offenders could have their internet access terminated.

Virgin Media has been in the forefront of the move to clamp down on illegal downloads. As much as eight hundreds Virgin Media customers received letters warning them about participating in illegal file sharing at the start of the company 10-week campaign to 'educate users' about the danger of file-sharing.

When the bids are reduced and not increased as in a traditional auction, it is called a reverse auction. The objective is typically to arrive at the lowest total cost as distinct from the lowest price. However, there are many cases of e-auction fraud had happened around us. Mobile payment systems in Malaysia: Its potentials and consumers’ adoption strategies.

Can you even imagine just a few years ago that so soon will come a time when people like us can use our hand phone as wallet to pay whoever and whatever we want in the comfort of wherever we are using only a mobile phone coupled with a 6-digit security PIN (Personal Identification Number) via SMS (Short Messaging Service)? It’s just so fantastic because just the other day I paid my utility bills like Astro, TNB, Telecom and water bill from the chair in the front of my TV. I was also being able to reload my hand phone at a discounted rate and settle my credit card loans, car loans and house loans via my personal hand phone.

Although not tangible, I am for sure going to save hundreds of Ringgit Malaysia in terms of fuel, waiting time, parking fees and tolls in a year. Not forgetting the anxiety and helplessness I have suffered because of banks operating time and Public Holidays.

Mobile Payment is a point-of-sale (POS) payment made through a mobile device, such as a cellular telephone, a smart phone, or a personal digital assistant (PDA). Using mobile payment method, a person with a wireless device could pay for items in a store or settle a restaurant bill without interacting with any staff member. Mobile payments are used to pay no only for merchandise purchased via mobile channel but also transactions in the physical world such as vending machines, passport photo machines and car wash machines.

One of the example of Mobile Payment Systems that are available in Malaysia such as MMWallet. It is designed by Mobile Money International Sdn Bhd. It is to solve the problem created by cash, credit cards and cheques. Now, users are free to purchase products online and made payment without being physically present at the store. This will definitely boom our e-commerce industry in Malaysia since it encouraged consumers to shop online.

To use Mobile Money, he/she must have a savings, current or credit card account with participating banks. It is like a Credit Card if he/she applies for a "Pay by Mobile Phone" credit card account or be billed by the bank accordingly every month. Besides, it also functions as a Debit Card if it is tied to shopper's savings or current account. The amount will be deducted directly once the transaction is successful from their account.

To encourage consumer to adopt this payment system, super low transaction fee must be introduce compared to what typically being charged by credit card (acquiring banks) at 2.5 to 3%. For e-commerce website integrated with Mobile Money WebLink, the transaction rate is 2.5%, one of the lowest online transaction rate compared to other typically charges such as 3.5% for MOTO transaction and 4.5% for Internet Payment Gateway.

Besides, consumers must be told that it is safe and secure. With Mobile Money, they do not have to be concern of cash /cheque/credit card handling problems or fraud. The Mobile Money Payment System conforms to the stringent requirements set by Bank Negara Malaysia and the participating banks.

Blog review: E-tailing

This is a review from the post about Dell,a multinational technology corporation that is shifting away from direct sales online. As we all have known, Dell sells their PC and laptops directly to their customers online. However, Dell is slowly shifting away from this successful business model when the growth of PC sales slowed.

Dell impressed many in its early years with its distinct model of supply chain management, selling customized computers directly to customers to meet burgeoning PC demand. Those days appear to be over as Dell's profits and shares have dropped considerably from their peaks in recent times.

Therefore, Dell had announced that it would offer Dimension PCs and Inspiron notebooks through Wal-Mart and Sam's club.

What was Dell's rationale for the recent sales model shift?
Dell's stock price, which had fallen over 30 percent in the previous year while rivals such as Hewlett-Packard had performed much better.

The reason is because today's customers are willing to choose from a smaller number of off-the-shelf PCs and are less concerned with customization. And as PC prices have plummetted, inventory of standardized models turns quickly, and is less of a factor in profitability.

The shifts have converged to dampen dramatically the value of the direct sales channel built around cenralized inventory storage and PC customibility.

Credit Card debts

A credit card allows user to buy things even though they might not have the money to pay for it right away. Credit card debt is the result of credit card misuse. The problem is that people use their credit cards too often and let their debt add up. Then they can only pay back small amounts at a time. This ends up costing a lot of money in finance charges.

Credit Card debt causes

1 . Missing payments
The fastest way to get into credit difficulties is by not repaying the minimum payment required. Missed payments may result in the card being refused at retailers until payment is made. Worse still, this will affect the user’s credit rating.

2 .General overspending
Spending on a credit card is borrowing money. It is a debt and must be repaid at some point. The smart card user only uses the card in place of cash, or to obtain a purchase they can afford, if they can pay off the cost over time.

3.Clients being loyal to credit card providers .User changes his or her credit card provider once the low or interest free period is over. Besides, credit card companies have no loyalty to user .

4.Having too many credit cards .The more credit cards a person has the more likely they are to use them.

5.Expensive payment protection insurance
Some cards offer payment protection insurance, but premiums are often high and the conditions of payout complicated. The best insurance against inability to pay is to pay as much as possible, as regularly as possible, and limit unnecessary spending.

6.Get professional advice
There are four main agencies that offer free, impartial advice for those in debt: the Citizens Advice Bureau, the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, National Debtline, and Payplan. These are non-profit making organisations that guide those in debt through the options available to them. The companies ultimately make money from a card holder’s debt.

FOR EXAMPLE: MASTERCARD.COM /visacard,com/citi.com

Citi ,visa, master card continue to offer variety service to their cardholders via internet service

    Stop debt growing
    1. Move debts to the lowest interest rate available. Card holder with a good credit rating can always ring and ask the credit card company for a lower rate at any time.

    2. Get a copy of your credit report. Your credit report is your bill-paying history. Check for errors and contact merchants if you have questions. You are entitled to a free credit report if you have been turned down for a loan or a credit card.

3.Balance transfer credit card deals give user an excellent chance to shift their balances to one card with low or zero interest rates.

4.To avoid having too many credit cards, a person should only use one or two at a time.

5.Consideration is user balance transfer card's limit. The amount of balances cannot exceed a credit limit of balance transfer credit card. User make sure, the grace period is long enough to pay off the entire balance.

6.Evaluate own financial situation. Start with a list of credit card companies rates. Actually, it may be pretty tough to manage a big amount of credit cards.

Blog Review: The rise of identity theft

This is a review to the blog entitled identity theft. From the blog, it is known that cases involving identity theft are increasing from time to time. Over 15 millions Americans were victims of this identity theft and it is just in America alone. How about in other countries? It is a crime that is getting the attention by people around the world today.

So what exactly is identity theft? It is a crime used to refer to fraud that involves someone pretending to be someone else in order to steal money or get other benefits. It is a relatively new term, since its not inherently possible to steal an identity, only to use it. The person whose identity is used can suffer various consequences when he or she is held responsible of the perpetrator's actions.

How do they take your identity? It is very easy because all they need is your social security number, your birth date, and other identifying information such as your address and phone number and whatever else they can find about you. These information can be easily found from your place of work, school or your doctor.

It is very dangerous if those information falls on the hand of others because it can be used to facilitate crimes including illegal immigration, terrorism and espionage. Identity theft may also be a means of blackmail. There are also cases of identity cloning to attack payment systems, including online credit card processing and medical insurance.

Therefore, in many countries, specific laws make it a crime to use another person identity for personal gain.

The threat of online security

As technology grows and changes, personal privacy may not be that private anymore. Nowadays, people are banking online, scanning their irises to breeze through airport security and fingerprint scanning to access their laptops- and their personal information could be targeted by thieves and hackers. Therefore, it is no longer safe to post all the personal valuable information on the net.

As Internet users display more of their personal information on social networking websites, computer hackers are employing increasingly sophisticated methods to pry that information loose. In many cases, they're devising small attacks that can fly under the radar of traditional security software, while exploiting the trust users place in popular business and consumer websites.

For consumers, its not just their profiles on social network that can be mined for personal information. Sophisticated smartphones that run full-fledged operating systems and e-mail applications, and hence store more reliable data, could present tempting targets.

Security researchers have found numerous ways to break into prominent mobile phone platforms from Symbian and Microsoft and quickly demonstrated ways to break into Apple's new iPhone.

In the corporate world, criminals are hunting for more of the valuable info stored on companies server. Cyberthieves are also attacking corporate databases in search of undiscloses financial data or proprietary design and engineering information that can be sold in return for a large sum of money.

Phishing

Phishing is a method thieves used to get personal information from user in order to steal user identity and then user money or benefits-like bank account numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, passport numbers, etc. into forms on Web sites that are designed to resemble the bank, credit card, or other company who they are claiming to be. Phishing can be carried out in person or over the phone, and are delivered online through spam e-mail or pop-up windows. The e-mail messages, pop-up windows, and the Web sites they link to appear official enough that they deceive many people into believing that they are legitimate.

Example of a phishing e-mail message, (bank)

Misspelled Web addresses: When a Web site uses an Internet address (also called a "domain name" or "URL") that is similar to the Internet address of a popular Web site or is a common misspelling of popular Web site that could signify a phishing scam.

Methods avoid Phishing Attacks
1.Make sure your computer is updated and scanned regularly
(as scheduled or manually) with a corporate grade computer security suite.

2.Do not trust any e-mail that urgently requests personal information of any kind.

3. Phishing attacks often ask for personal financial information. Never fill out personal
information of any kind including passwords, usernames, social security numbers, credit card
numbers, and the like through a form on the Internet. A request of this kind should be a big
warning. Legitimate organizations generally do not ask you to verify username, password
except for an initial set up once in a while.

4.Always report suspicious activity to the business or organization being spoofed.

5.Update your anti-virus software frequently. Common anti-virus software includes McAfee and Norton.

6.Change your password every 60 days.

7. If you have any doubts about the authenticity of an email, do not respond; call the sender or
type in the web address.

8.Type addresses directly into your browser or use your personal bookmarks or favorites. If you need to update your account information or change your password for a site, visit the site by
choosing the bookmarked link from your Favorites list or by typing the URL directly into your
browser.

9. Don’t enter personal or financial information into pop-up windows. One phishing technique
launches a fake pop-up window when you click a link in a phishing e-mail message. Even if the
pop-up window looks official or claims to be secure, avoid entering sensitive information,
because there is no way to confirm that it is secure.

History of E-Commerce
T
he time before information technologies had been explore, transactions between sellers and buyers are through face to face. There are a lot of problems and disadvantage were happened between the transactions. Nowadays, information technologies had help the growth of business.

The most interesting and simple hobby for female, even for a male, which i think is shopping. By having the evolution of information technology, we are able to enjoy shopping through the web. We are able to shop in anytime, anywhere, even in your pajamas. Now, this bring us back to the invention of the very of notion of " sell and buy" electricity, cables, computers, modems and the internet of course! Started in 1991, it was made possible to do shopping online and since then, hundreds and thousands of businesses started to venture into this promising approach-the E-commerce.

Before i going to describe about the evolution of E-Commerce, let me briefly explain what actually is E-Commerce. E-Commerce can be described as the process of buying, selling or exchanging products, services and information via computer networks. That's what is described in our text book. In the simple words,
E-Commerce is the business transactions conducted through the Internet which are faster and more efficient because traders can reduce operational cost as well as transaction and delivery time. E-Commerce is a transaction process with the help of the leading technologies such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) which gave an opportunity for users to exchange business information and do electronic transactions. These technology was found in 1970s and able a lot of business and organizations to send commercial documentation electronically.

E-Commerce has become popular among the general public in 1994. It took almost four years to develop the security protocols (for example, HTTP) and DSL which allowed rapid access and a persistent connection to the Internet. By the way, the way of E-Commerce are changed in 2000s. The process of E-Commerce were able the consumer to purchase for the available products and services by using the secure connections and electronic payment services. Over the expanding of E-Commerce, by the end of 2001, the largest type of E-Commerce is B2B(Business-to-Business-Consumer) model. There were around $700 billion in transactions.

Two of the first online purveyors were, of course, eBay and Amazon.com which are the first Internet companies to allow electronic transactions. "They were the first ones to offer one-click ordering that people now expect to find. Although Amazon certainly had a lot of skepticism from the street as to when it was going to become profitable, the company kept at it.", said by Daugherty. According to the research conducted in 2008, the domain Amazon.com attracted about 615 million customers every year. One of the most popular and interesting feature of Amazon.com is the review system. It allows consumer to submit their reviews and rate for the products on a rating scale from on to five stars. Besides, Amazon.com also enables consumers to search for the desires books by key-in the keywords in the database through its clear and user-friendly advanced search facility. However, currently, the 5 largest and most famous world wide internet retailers are Amazon, Dell, Staples, Office Depot and Hewlett Packard. According to Fortune magazine, Dell has become the 3rd of highest revenues, profits gained in America through the annual rating, while Apple is the tops Fortune's annual list of America's Most Admired Companies in 2008. It can be seen that, Internet companies had growing faster and faster in nowadays.

However, the evolution of E-Commerce are never end although the environment around are keep changing.

History of E-Commerce is a history of a new, virtual world which is evolving according to the customer advantage. It is a world which we are all building together brick by brick, laying a secure foundation for the future generations. “Specifically, and important milestone in the evolution of e-commerce is the development of affordable, easy-to-use e-commerce solutions that have enabled hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs to transform their unique ideas into organizations successful business.”, Rich Riley said.

The growth of E-Commerce had been improved as the time pass through. There is an example that i search through online search engine. A quick glimpse at the data promises much more evolution in the years to come. Forrester Research, for example, it is a technology and market research company that provides pragmatic advice to global leaders in business and technology. With hundreds of analysts and coverage areas, they are the only company that creates forward-thinking research specifically for your role in the organization. It predicted American firms alone would sell US$316 billion in goods and services via the Web by 2010. That figure would more than double 2004's online spending to account for some 12 percent of all retail sales, up from about 7 percent today.

In the business world, time is money. Cycle time can be defined as the total time that is takes to complete a recurring task. An example would be the total time spent starting from the point where an order is received from the customer to the delivery process and the final transaction. E-commerce allows people to carry out business without the barriers of time or distance. It is a business which runs 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Anyone can purchase or sell just anything with a click on the mouse. The benefits that e-commerce delivers are it is convenience, fast, and low cost. This can greatly reduces the cycle time for the whole process.

Employees empowerment in e-commerce is the ability to make decision for customers. something about myself...

Here is little about myself…

Im shi min and were grown up in KL. Like any other kids, I went through schooling and right now at Utar doing a Bachelor Degree in Entrepreneurship which is quite interesting. I like to cook and enjoy eating nice food which can be found anywhere in KL. The reason I am so into eatery might be because of my family who engaged in a food business. Besides cooking, I also like to bake cakes and make desserts. My favorites would have to be tiramisu and chocolates.

There are few websites that I visits very often which are google.com, facebook.com, wikipedia.com, utar.edu.my, and youtube.com. I often use it to search for various information and to get the latest news that happened around the world. Besides that it is also a very useful tool to socialize and communicate with my friends.

I guess that’s all for now..

about the most lazy gal ^^ stacy pua

Hihi...all my friends... Nice to meet you all.
Thanks for you for visiting my blog here. This is the first time i write a formal blog on this page. Why say so, cause usually i wrote my blog in informal pattern like what i wrote in my friendster's blog. (all mixture languages, haha!!so please forgive me if my broken english make you blur@@) First of all, let i briefly introduce myslef. My name is Pua Siaw Theng, you can call me stacy as my nickname. I'm 23 years old girl from Mantin, Negeri Sembilan. Almost friends heard i'm from Negeri Sembilan also call me buy siew bao for them. Haha! Undoubtedly, siew bao is one of the famous food in Seremban. But, all my friends, my hometown not at Seremban but Mantin. Well, Mantin is just a small town in Negeri Sembilan. I believe that just a minor number of people will know this place. Mantin is famous with 'hakka yong tou fu'. Hmmm, if you wanna know the famous visiting place around my hometown, i'll introduce Port Dickson. Port Dickson is around 45minutes journey from my home, there is a famous seaside that most of the outsiders like to visit. Besides, around my hometown also got a lot of attractive waterfall such as pantai waterfall, Jeram Toi waterfall, Pedas, and so on...

Ok... Enough for my hometown, back to myself... First impression most of my friends when fisrt met me, they usually said i'm a playful girl who will not going for higher education and naughty. When i told them i was studying my degree level now, all friends will affraid and said 'unbelievable'. Haha. Well, i'm enrolling entrepreneurship course in UTAR and is the last year for me to complete my degree level. I'm in Year 3 Sem 1, tutorial group 2. ENT02 is a group that consists of most beautiful ladies of whole entrepreneurship course. Haha! that's because our group just consists of 6 gentlemans out of 22 students. ENT02 is a nice group, i'm happy to know all my classmate and will appreciate the memories we had during our UNI life.

My hobbies are quite common, i like to shopping, watching drama, sing karaoke, playing online games, and sleeping also can considered as one of my hobbies. Haha! The most usual hobby i did is sing karaoke with my friends. Because sing karaoke is one of the way that can release my stress when i was moody. The people who don't know me may feel that i'm a quiet girl but actually i'm not. I'll be crazy when singing karaoke with my friends because they like to sing those weird songs like Chinese New Year song, old old songs that only my mom's generation will know, and also R&B song. (although all don'n know rap at all, haha!!) The other activities that i'll do when i was alone is watching drama or surfing on net.
